"If not, Spencer Burford will replace him at left tackle," ESPN reported.
Williams suffered the injury during the 49ers' Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday but returned as a limited participant on Friday, offering some hope he'll be available in New Orleans.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed confidence in Burford if he's called upon to start.
"I feel good," Shanahan said when asked about the possibility of Burford starting in Williams' place. "I think Spence has done a hell of a job for us, whether it's at guard or tackle. Making that change fully, he has always been an emergency tackle since he's been here. But, getting all the reps there throughout OTAs and training camp, I think he's gotten better at it each day, and I think he's made to play that position. He can really play all of them. If he's got to go, he will be ready."
The 49ers are also monitoring wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who is battling a left shoulder injury. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Jennings will be a game-time decision as well, though there is optimism within the organization that he will suit up against the Saints. Schefter added that the team expects him to play.
Meanwhile, quarterback Brock Purdy has already been ruled out with shoulder and toe injuries. Mac Jones will start in his place as the 49ers aim to move to 2-0 on the season.
