Head coach Kyle Shanahan called Brock Purdy a "long shot" to play on Sunday and hasn't dismissed the setback sidelining the quarterback for multiple weeks. The 49ers starter continues to deal with injuries to his left shoulder and toe. Shanahan declined to specify which toe or foot is affected.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings also landed on the injury report after leaving Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks with a shoulder issue. Tests reportedly showed the injury is not considered long-term, but Jennings was held out of Wednesday's practice—seemingly as a precaution.
In addition, several other 49ers players missed Wednesday's session due to injuries or veteran rest days, leaving the team monitoring multiple key contributors heading into Week 2.
The 49ers brought in the following players for tryouts. Kicker Eddy Piñeiro was signed.
- TE Zach Davidson
- TE Peyton Hendershot
- TE Nick Muse
- K Eddy Pineiro
- TE Messiah Swinson
- TE Cole Turner
- QB Mike White
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Saints, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
