Quarterback Brock Purdy suffered injuries to his left shoulder and toe in Sunday's Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks, finishing the game 26-of-35 for 277 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Of the two injuries, the toe is currently the most concerning.
When asked about Purdy's availability for Sunday, Shanahan commented, "I think it's a long shot."
The coach refrained from specifying which toe or foot is affected. When asked if Purdy's injury could potentially result in a multi-week absence, Shanahan said, "It's possible."
If Purdy is unable to play, Mac Jones is expected to start at quarterback. The 49ers have two more practices—Thursday and Friday—before traveling to the New Orleans area.
Additionally, wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder), running back Christian McCaffrey (calf, rest day), tackle Trent Williams (knee, rest day), and defensive linemen Nick Bosa (rest) and Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) won't practice.
Guard Ben Bartch (knee, elbow), wide receiver Jordan Watkins (ankle), and running back Jordan James (finger) will be limited.
