The San Francisco 49ers are searching for a new kicker after waiving Jake Moody, whose struggles continued in the team's Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the 49ers are bringing in Eddy Piñeiro for a workout.

Piñeiro previously worked with the 49ers' special teams coordinator, Brant Boyer, in 2021 while with the New York Jets. He has also appeared in games with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.

The 29-year-old Piñeiro has made 111 of 126 career field goal attempts since entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the then-Oakland Raiders in 2018. He has also converted 116 of 126 extra point attempts.

Most recently, Piñeiro spent three seasons with the Panthers. In 2024, he made 22 of 26 field goal attempts and 33 of 35 extra points.

NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reported that the 49ers will not consider veteran kicker Greg Joseph, who spent part of the offseason with the team, as a replacement for Jake Moody.
