Colton McKivitz won't be testing free agency in 2026 after all. The San Francisco 49ers and their starting right tackle have agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract extension that includes $27 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"McKivitz was in the last year of his deal, and he now is contractually tied to San Francisco through the 2028 season," wrote Schefter.



The 49ers drafted McKivitz (6-6, 301) out of West Virginia in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 63 games with 40 starts, including 35 consecutive starts anchoring the offensive line. Last season, the 29-year-old posted a career-best 72.2 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus.

Now in his seventh NFL season, McKivitz remains a key piece in protecting quarterback Brock Purdy.

In August, McKivitz noted he was in the best shape of his career after an offseason of intense training.

"I feel a lot better in shape. I've seen my body change," McKivitz said. "I've seen some growth. Obviously, physically and mentally—that was a big part of it."

San Francisco signed three others—Purdy, George Kittle, and Fred Warner—to contract extensions this offseason, and recently reworked the final year of wide receiver Jauan Jennings' deal.
