One area that analysts felt wasn't adequately addressed in the draft was the offensive line. Many predicted the 49ers would prioritize the unit early, but the lone offensive lineman selected was guard Connor Colby, taken in the seventh round. As a result, most early 2026 mock drafts project San Francisco to target offensive tackle next spring.
CBS Sports lead draft analyst Mike Renner has the 49ers doing precisely that, projecting them to select Miami Hurricanes right tackle Francis Mauigoa with the No. 26 overall pick in his latest 2026 mock draft.
"Right tackle Colton McKivitz is in a contract year and Trent Williams is 37 years old," Renner explained. "The 49ers could use some insurance at tackle, where Francis Mauigoa has been a reliable starter since his freshman year."
Mauigoa entered college as one of the nation's top prospects and immediately earned the starting right tackle job for Miami in 2023. He has played all of his collegiate snaps on the right side.
Last season, Mauigoa allowed just one sack and 19 total pressures across 576 pass-blocking snaps, earning a 72.2 pass-blocking grade and 70.7 overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus, along with Second-Team All-ACC honors in 2024. His run-blocking grade dipped slightly from 70.7 in 2023 to 68.1 in 2024, but scouts remain high on his long-term potential.
At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Mauigoa boasts the size and athleticism NFL teams covet. If McKivitz departs in free agency, Mauigoa could step in immediately at right tackle as a rookie. Long-term, he may be groomed as a potential successor to Trent Williams.
