When asked if the three-game suspension was official, Shanahan responded, "Yes. You can always appeal it, so we'll hope for the best on that. But that's what we're planning for."
The suspension stems from a DUI arrest in November 2024. Last month, Robinson was sentenced to 36 months of probation and fined $390 after pleading no contest (nolo contendere) to one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol. The 49ers were aware of the possibility of a suspension before signing Robinson.
Robinson spent the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, appearing in all 17 games in 2024 and recording 31 receptions for 505 yards and seven touchdowns. He previously played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
49ers' wide receiver room in flux
Robinson joined a 49ers receiving corps in transition. The team traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in March, and Brandon Aiyuk is not expected to be ready for Week 1 as he continues recovering from ACL and MCL injuries suffered in October 2024.
With Aiyuk sidelined, the 49ers are expected to start Jauan Jennings and last year's first-round draft pick, Ricky Pearsall, when they open the season against the Seattle Seahawks on September 7. However, Jennings is currently dealing with a calf injury—and wants a new contract.
Additionally, Jordan Watkins is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, while Jacob Cowing missed Wednesday's practice due to a lingering hamstring issue.
