Injury updates

FB Kyle Juszczyk left practice early, moving slowly while headed to the locker room. His injury occurred during one-on-one drills, going against LB Dee Winters. General manager John Lynch and teammates were seen checking on him as he exited. The 49ers did not provide an update.

RB Isaac Guerendo also left practice with an apparent shoulder issue during special teams work, but maintained good range of motion while being evaluated by the team's medical staff.

DE Yetur Gross-Matos and OL Andre Dillard continued individual conditioning work as they work to return from injuries.

Quick notes

Austen Pleasants filled in at right tackle with McKivitz sidelined and looked healthy after leaving Friday's session with an apparent issue.

WR Ricky Pearsall stood out, hauling in five receptions—including four from Brock Purdy—during team drills.

"Pearsall got off to a hot start with a reception on a deep post from Purdy against the coverage of cornerback Dallis Flowers," NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco wrote. "Three plays later, he hauled in a Mac Jones pass of intermediate depth."

Of course, it's difficult to gauge how much of that is due to the 49ers' top corners, Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green, being sidelined. Maiocco added that Pearsall has looked like the 49ers' best receiver since being activated off the PUP list last weekend. The second-year wideout has primarily been lining up at the Z receiver spot and in the slot.

Rookie WR Jordan Watkins caught two passes during team drills and worked as a punt returner on special teams.

LG Dominick Puni impressed in pass protection, showing quick recovery even when initially beaten.

On defense, rookie DT Alfred Collins continues to ramp up his workload after missing all of the offseason program with a calf injury.

"I feel good, feel 100%," Collins said. "It was a process, and it went well."

CBs Tre Brown and Dallis Flowers continue to work with the first-team defense with Lenoir and Green out. Brown also saw reps at safety.

CB Jakob Robinson recorded a pass breakup against Watkins, and DB Siran Neal intercepted QB Carter Bradley on a throw intended for Watkins.

Newly-signed CB Eli Apple broke up a pass intended for WR Isaiah Hodgins, but was also called for pass interference on a deep throw from QB Mac Jones intended for WR Andy Isabella. Additionally, he allowed a 15-yard completion from Jones to WR Terique Owens to close out practice.

Quarterback play

The Athletic's Matt Barrows had Brock Purdy completing all 11 of his pass attempts during team drills, including the four that went to Pearsall. He also had a smooth strike to RB Christian McCaffrey on a sharp route.

Barrows had Mac Jones at 10-of-12, Tanner Mordecai at 1-of-3, and Carter Bradley at 0-of-3 with one interception.

Kicker competition

Jake Moody and Greg Joseph attempted field goals from 33, 38, 43, and 48 yards out. Joseph was a perfect 4-of-4, while Moody was 3-of-4, missing from 48 yards.

Joseph's camp tally is 22-of-24, while Moody is 21-of-24. The competition remains close.

"Well, I think they're really close," special teams coordinator Brant Boyer said after practice. "I think that they're both doing a great job. There's not a ton of separation there. Both of them rebounded from some days that they could have kicked better, and I thought they kicked pretty solid today.

"It's just a matter of who's going to execute when the game comes down to it, and they're competing. They're doing everything we're asking them to do, and we're looking forward to see how it's going to shake out."

Next practice

The 49ers will hold their next practice on Monday, August 4, at 10:25 a.m. PT.
