NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan reported that Green had been enjoying one of his best practices yet, recording multiple pass breakups before coming off the field "a little gimpy."
She added, "He took his helmet off, walked off the field, and did not practice the rest of the session. It looked like he was trying to stretch out his hamstring."
The injury occurred after Green broke up a deep pass from quarterback Mac Jones intended for wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
Green, a promising second-year player who flashed potential as a rookie, has been widely expected to earn a starting role on the outside following the departure of Charvarius Ward, who signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
If Green misses time, the 49ers do have depth options, including newcomer Tre Brown, who could see an increased workload on the outside.
The 49ers are off Saturday and will return to practice on Sunday, when the team may provide more clarity on Green's injury. For now, San Francisco is undoubtedly hopeful that its potential starting cornerback avoided a serious setback.
