Last week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jennings plans to request a trade if he and the 49ers are unable to agree on a new deal. The 28-year-old receiver is entering the final season of the two-year contract he signed in 2024.
Lynch confirmed that Jennings reported to training camp and completed his physical on Monday. Shanahan added that Jennings has not formally requested a trade.
"I won't speak for Jauan, but had a good visit with him," Lynch said. "Anticipate him being out there (at practice). You guys know our feelings on J.J. He embodies what we think a Niner is all about—plays the right way.
"We love him, and I think all that stuff—we're not going to get into the contract talks and all that, that takes care of itself, but we love him, and he's here."
When asked if there has been dialogue about a contract extension, Lynch simply repeated with a smile, "We love him, and he's here."
Jennings is coming off the best season of his NFL career. In 2024, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver hauled in 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns—surpassing his combined receiving yardage from the previous three seasons.
With Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from ACL and MCL injuries sustained in October 2024, and Deebo Samuel now with the Washington Commanders, Jennings is expected to step into a significantly larger offensive role as a starting wide receiver for the 49ers in 2025.
