Bryce Huff is determined to rejuvenate his NFL career after a disappointing one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. Traded to the San Francisco 49ers during the offseason program, Huff looks to complement All-Pro Nick Bosa and bolster a defensive front that struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks consistently in 2024.

Huff reunites with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who was his head coach with the New York Jets when he posted a career-best 10 sacks and 67 pressures in 2023. Many believe Huff was misused in Philadelphia last season, where he was asked to rush from the outside linebacker spot rather than playing with his hand in the dirt—his natural position.


"Obviously, it didn't work out with the Eagles," Bosa said in June, "but you take a guy who's playing a four-down-attack front, and then you put him in as an outside backer, it's not always gonna work out so great. He's really elite at a certain thing, so we're gonna use him that way, and I'm excited to see it."

Throughout offseason practices, Bosa and Huff were often seen exchanging pass-rushing tips, eager to learn from one another and sharpen their skills.

"Nick's a cool guy," Huff recently told Brad Graham. "We chopped it up a bit during spring camp, and I just kind of watched everybody's process, and he's pretty dialed in, and he's a hard worker. I'm extremely excited to get there and ball out with him.

"Not only him, but every guy on the D-line. I've been choppin' it up with all kinds of guys on the front, so I'm extremely excited to work with all of them. I know Bosa has been killing it in the league since forever, so to be on the team with him, it's gonna be lit, honestly."

Huff knows from experience that chemistry between Bosa and himself will be the key to success in 2025.


"Just playing with another dominant edge in the league, like Jermaine [Johnson] in New York, in this scheme, I know what's possible with Nick and the amount of stuff we can cook up," Huff continued. "By the last couple of games in New York, me and Jermaine were freestyling on the field. I just know he's been in the scheme a long time as well, so I know he has some tricks up his sleeve.

"But I know come Week 1, we're gonna be dialed in, and I'm extremely excited to get to work with him throughout camp and the preseason and the season as well. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it."

Huff shares outlook for Mykel Williams


Huff won't have to do it alone. Along with trading for the veteran pass rusher, the 49ers used their first-round pick on Mykel Williams, an explosive rookie edge prospect. Huff shared his early impressions of his new young teammate.

"He's a unit, I'm not gonna lie to you," Huff said. "I saw him training this morning. I was like, 'Yeah, he's gonna wreak some havoc in this front, for sure.'"

The 49ers hope so. Williams is a key part of their strategy to revamp a defensive line that not only struggled to generate pressure but also consistently failed to stop the run. San Francisco used three draft picks on defensive linemen, also adding Alfred Collins in the second round and CJ West in the fourth.


Battling Trent Williams


Huff is also looking forward to testing himself against one of the NFL's premier left tackles, Trent Williams—making for a must-watch matchup during training camp.

"I've always looked forward to going against the best tackles in the league, especially on game day, just to know how it's gonna go down," Huff shared. "I've always wanted to go against Trent, so the fact that I ended up on the team with him is even better because I'm gonna get to go up against him multiple times, I'm assuming.

"I don't know how the swapping sides works yet with this scheme and the guys here, how they like to swap around, but hopefully, I do get some time on that side and we can get to work because they're saying iron sharpens iron."

Facing a future Hall of Famer like Trent Williams in practice offers Huff an invaluable opportunity to sharpen his skills and prepare for elite competition throughout the regular season.
