PFF contributor John Kosko released his list of the top 32 tight ends heading into the 2025 season, and—perhaps unsurprisingly—Kittle came in at No. 1, ahead of standouts like Brock Bowers (No. 2) and Trey McBride (No. 3).
"Kittle has been one of the best tight ends in the game for nearly a decade and was handsomely rewarded by the 49ers this offseason with a big contract extension," Kosko wrote. "The NFL's highest-graded tight end over the past two seasons (92.0), Kittle is the most complete player at his position in the NFL. He has earned an 84.7 PFF overall grade or better in seven straight seasons."
In 2024, Kittle recorded his fourth 1,000-yard receiving season, finishing with 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns. His 92.1 overall grade was the second-best of his career and led all tight ends. His versatility was also on display, earning a 70.8 run-blocking grade—his fourth straight season at or above that mark.
Over eight NFL seasons, Kittle has totaled 7,380 receiving yards, ranking third in 49ers history behind only Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens. His 45 career touchdowns place him eighth all-time for the franchise and second among 49ers tight ends, trailing only Vernon Davis (55).
"George's leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the Faithful are truly unique and special," general manager John Lynch said via a statement after signing Kittle to a contract extension. "He is an outstanding representation for the 49ers on the field and is an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL."
