The extension averages about $53 million per year, tying Purdy with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff as the seventh-highest-paid player in the NFL by annual salary. His $181 million in total guarantees ranks eighth among all players.

We asked fans to weigh in on the deal, offering three choices: it's fair, it's a bargain, or it's too much. The vast majority—69.7%—said the extension is fair for a quarterback of Purdy's caliber. Another 17.3% called it a bargain, while only 13% felt the 49ers overpaid.
Purdy's rise from the No. 262 overall pick in 2022 to signing a $265 million contract in 2025 is remarkable. He has earned just $2.6 million total over his first three NFL seasons.
"He's done a lot for this organization, and we're grateful for him and looking forward to having him as our quarterback for a long time," general manager John Lynch said last month.
The 49ers are hopeful they've finally solidified the quarterback position for the foreseeable future—and they're ready to compete with the 25-year-old leading the offense.
