Debate continues over whether Purdy deserves that kind of money. However, it's quickly becoming the norm for franchise quarterbacks, with each of the NFL's 10 highest-paid signal-callers earning at least $51 million per year.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero joined The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday and shared that he fully expects Purdy to eventually secure a contract north of $50 million annually.
"What I would tell you on Purdy is they've been in negotiations, they have been in talks, they continue to move forward," Pelissero told Eisen. "Purdy is there. He is working out with the team. He chose to be around, even though there's this ongoing situation involving his contract.
"I would certainly anticipate ... This is going to be right there, in the 50s, probably, with Brock Purdy. They've made it very clear that they want Brock Purdy to be the long-term quarterback solution in San Francisco."
Despite the ongoing conversations, Pelissero noted that the two sides are not yet close to an agreement, so fans may need to remain patient.
"They're not close," Pelissero added. "Nothing's imminent, from my understanding here. But certainly this is a deal that I would anticipate that all parties have a vested interest in getting done before we get to training camp."
Brock Purdy has thrown for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions over his three NFL seasons, completing 67.5% of his passes with a 104.9 passer rating. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract, which is set to pay him just over $5 million in 2025.
