The San Francisco 49ers kick off their offseason program on Tuesday, just two days before the 2025 NFL Draft. Phase One of the program is limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation. Participation is voluntary in everything until the team's mandatory minicamp in June.

One of the biggest storylines heading into the week is whether quarterback Brock Purdy will report to the team as his high-profile contract negotiation continues. Purdy is next in line for a lucrative extension and is expected to become one of the NFL's highest-paid players. However, he's not the only 49er eligible for a new deal.


NFL insider Michael Silver of The Athletic weighed in on what to expect from three key players—Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and linebacker Fred Warner.


Silver reports that there has been some progress toward a multi-year extension for Purdy, and the quarterback could be headed toward a deal exceeding $50 million per year, which aligns with current expectations.

"If Purdy shows up on Tuesday, it's a sign that he and his agent believe they are very close to striking a deal," Silver noted. "If he doesn't, that probably indicates that some significant obstacles remain. As of now, no decision has been made."

Silver also addressed the contract situations of Kittle and Warner, both of whom could receive extensions this offseason. Kittle is entering the final year of his current deal, and general manager John Lynch has expressed a strong desire to keep him with the team.

"We've already talked about it," Lynch said in February. "We want George to retire a Niner. He's one of those guys. He's a Niner through and through. And so, we want that to become a reality."


Despite those sentiments, there hasn't been a recent update on negotiations. According to Silver, the two sides remain far apart, and Kittle is currently considered "a longshot" to report this week.

As for Warner, Silver believes the veteran linebacker will likely be in Santa Clara with his teammates. While there have been no significant extension talks yet, Warner still has two years remaining on his current deal.
