FOX Sports analyst Geoff Schwartz unveiled his second mock draft of the year, which includes a bold move in the top 10: the Pittsburgh Steelers trading up to No. 8 to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
As for the 49ers at No. 11 overall, Schwartz projects them taking Texas A&M defensive end Shemar Stewart.
"Stewart fits the body type of pass rushers the 49ers tend to employ," Schwartz explained. "He's big and physical but does need some refinement. He's an upgrade for the 49ers' pass rush."
The primary concern with Stewart (6-5, 267) is his modest sack production, recording just 1.5 sacks in each of his three college seasons. Still, his upside and physical traits make him an intriguing addition to a defensive front in need of reinforcements after several key departures.
Analyst James Foster of The 33rd Team and insider Tyler Dragon of USA Today both agree on a different target: Marshall defensive end Mike Green, who led the FBS with 17 sacks in 2024.
"The 49ers select Mike Green, the second-best pass rusher in this class, behind Abdul Carter," Foster wrote. "Green led the FBS with 17 sacks in 2024 and has the physical traits to maintain his production against better competition.
"He's explosive, flexible, and violent into contact, but is also a talented hand fighter with a varied pass rushing arsenal."
In Dragon's mock draft, Green is the second edge rusher off the board.
"The 49ers will have at least two new starters along their defensive line entering the season. Green could be one of them. Green's 17 sacks led college football last season. He's athletic, explosive and has the bend and flexibility to get around the edge."
