Coming in at No. 7 are the San Francisco 49ers, whose rookie class played a combined 4,371 snaps in 2024. Leading the group was right guard Dominick Puni, who logged 1,078 snaps—100% of the team's offensive plays.
Despite the 49ers' struggles, which saw them finish last in the NFC West with just six wins, their rookie class stood out.
"San Francisco's 2024 season was a disappointment, but not because of its draft picks," Locker wrote. "Third-round guard Dominick Puni was a revelation, turning in 0.33 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) and an 80.5 PFF overall grade — which ranked sixth among qualifiers at the position."
Injuries played a significant role in the 49ers' difficult season, but they also created opportunities for several rookies to step into key roles. Safety Malik Mustapha saw 755 snaps, while cornerback Renardo Green played 675.
"The 49ers' injuries in the secondary were mitigated by the play of Renardo Green (74.3 PFF coverage grade) and Malik Mustapha (66.3 PFF run-defense grade)," Locker noted.
First-round pick Ricky Pearsall, who missed time after recovering from a gunshot wound, played 455 offensive snaps and showed significant promise. The wide receiver finished his rookie season with 31 catches for 400 yards and three touchdowns.
"Despite playing in only 11 games, first-round pick Ricky Pearsall still managed to accrue 0.12 WAR with a 64.1 PFF receiving grade," Locker wrote. "Most impressive might be that none of the 49ers' rookies contributed negative WAR."
