One thing, however, was clear when asked if Purdy might have to play on his rookie contract in 2025.

"I think we're going to get the deal done. That's what I believe," Lynch said, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "We'll just leave it at that."
As for the timeline, Lynch remained noncommittal. However, he acknowledged that securing a deal before the start of the offseason program in a couple of weeks is a possibility—though far from guaranteed.
"I don't think it's too optimistic (to get it done by then)," Lynch said. "I think I understand why Brock wants that. We'd like that very much, so we've just got to find that right place for both sides, and I would love nothing more than for that to be the case."
Once finalized, Purdy's contract will make him the highest-paid player in franchise history and one of the league's top earners. Where he will rank—or where he should rank—among the NFL's highest-paid quarterbacks remains a hot topic of debate among fans and analysts.
While Purdy put up a solid 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, his production was a noticeable dip from 2023, when he set a franchise record with 4,280 passing yards while throwing 31 touchdowns compared to just 11 interceptions.
Both Purdy and the 49ers hope to avoid the prolonged contract disputes that have plagued the team in recent years. However, the complexities of this extension create an uncertain timeline for completion.
"Brock wants to be with us," Lynch said. "We want Brock to be with us. When that's the case, these things typically get done. And does it happen this offseason? I don't know. Hopefully it happens real soon this offseason but I think that's the extent of getting into those things... There's motivation on both sides, and that's always a good thing."
