"The request came today after a series of conversations over the past two weeks," Schefter noted. "Metcalf prefers a contender."
The San Francisco 49ers are an unlikely destination, as Seattle will unlikely do their division rival any favors. However, the news is significant. It potentially weakens the longtime NFC West foe.
Metcalf has amassed 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns over his six seasons since the Seahawks selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in a season three times.
Against the 49ers, Metcalf has totaled 750 receiving yards and five touchdowns across 12 regular-season matchups.
Seahawks say goodbye to Tyler Lockett
Additionally, the Seahawks bid farewell to Tyler Lockett through a heartfelt social media post, calling him "always a Seahawk through and through."
Seattle drafted Lockett in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Over his impressive 10-year career, Lockett has recorded four 1,000-yard seasons. Although, none have come since 2022.
If Lockett continues his career, he will enter a competitive wide receiver free-agent market. The 49ers, having agreed to trade Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders, could be in the market for a veteran wideout. Lockett may be a name to watch. San Francisco is also expected to add to the position group in the upcoming draft.
Last season, Lockett registered 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns—his lowest totals since 2017.
