Where does Purdy fit in? Should he rank among the top 10 highest-paid quarterbacks? Top 5? What is the right price for a quarterback who led the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance in his first two NFL seasons? Of course, he achieved this success with a roster stacked with offensive playmakers.
The 2024 season, however, painted a different picture. Injuries took a toll on the 49ers, sidelining key players like Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk for much of the season. As a result, Purdy's production dipped compared to his record-breaking 2023 campaign. He finished 2024 with 3,864 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a passer rating of 67.9.
Michael Ginnitti, the managing editor at Spotrac, made waves with his projected contract extension for Purdy, coming in at four years and $194 million, including $100 million guaranteed. This would place him among the NFL's 10 highest-paid players. We polled fans on whether this figure felt fair, too low, or too high, with the majority believing it was fair.
To take things further, we asked 49ers fans on social media to rank Purdy among all NFL quarterbacks. Does he belong in the top 5? Top 10? Top 15? Or does he fall outside of those tiers?
An overwhelming 60.2% of fans ranked Purdy as one of the top 10 quarterbacks, a respectable placement for the still-developing 25-year-old. A much smaller 25.3% placed him further down in the top 15, with only 11.8% of fans viewing him as a top-5 quarterback. Less than 3% believed he ranked outside the top 15.
