In Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, Samuel managed only two catches for 22 yards. He is on pace to finish with fewer than 900 receiving yards for the third consecutive season, potentially falling short of 800 yards this year.
On Monday, Samuel pushed back against the notion that he is struggling, instead attributing his lack of production to limited opportunities (h/t Niners Wire for the find).
"Not struggling at all just not getting the ball!!!!!!!" Samuel wrote.
Update: The post has since been deleted, but a screenshot is provided below.
He emphasized that his comments shouldn't be viewed as criticism toward any of his teammates, only a desire for more opportunities.
So far this season, Samuel has recorded 553 receiving yards and one touchdown on 40 receptions. Once considered one of the NFL's most dynamic dual-threat offensive weapons, Samuel has contributed just 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on 32 carries, averaging a mere 2.9 yards per attempt.
Samuel is also on track for his lowest-ever Pro Football Focus offensive grade. His current grade of 70.9 marks a steep decline from last season's 85.4 grade. Samuel's run grade this year is 64.5—a significant drop from the 85.3 he earned during his breakout 2021 campaign, where he racked up 1,770 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns.
Clearly, Samuel is eager for more opportunities to demonstrate that he remains a valuable weapon in the 49ers' offensive arsenal.
