Head coach Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to speak with reporters via conference call this afternoon, where he is expected to provide further updates on Mason's status.
Mason left the game in the second quarter and was examined on the sideline before heading to the locker room for X-rays. He briefly returned in the third quarter for a single play but experienced discomfort, preventing him from continuing. Mason finished with 73 rushing yards on nine carries.
With Mason sidelined, rookie Isaac Guerendo stepped up and took most of the remaining running back snaps. Guerendo impressed, finishing with 99 yards on 10 carries.
The 49ers were already short-handed at the running back position. Christian McCaffrey has yet to suit up this season and remains on injured reserve due to calf and Achilles tendinitis issues.
The team will now turn its focus to preparing for a highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs next week at Levi's Stadium.
