Between that time, starting quarterbacks will often organize throwing sessions with their receivers in an effort to build chemistry ahead of the rigors of training camp. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been unable to participate in such sessions over the last two years. The last overall draft pick in 2022, Purdy had yet to make a name for himself during his first offseason. Last year, he was still recovering from offseason surgery on his throwing arm.

For the first time in his career, Purdy finds himself healthy and sitting atop the 49ers' depth chart. He is coming off an impressive 2023 campaign that saw the quarterback throw for a franchise-record 4,280 yards and guide the team to the Super Bowl.
On Monday, the 49ers reported for the first day of the offseason program. While Purdy is focused on the task at hand—team meetings and strength and conditioning work—the quarterback hopes to organize additional sessions with his receivers during the team's break in a couple of months, following organized team activities and the mandatory minicamp.
"Yeah, I'm sure we'll get something together," Purdy told Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman over the weekend. "There hasn't been something exactly put in place yet. We'll see how OTAs go and where everyone is at with their bodies. In my mind, we definitely need to do that."
It's unclear if wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will participate in any on-field work this offseason. The star player awaits a contract extension from the 49ers and hopes to become one of the league's highest-paid receivers.
Purdy has spoken to Aiyuk amid the contract talks.
"I just told him I'll always have his back and support him in whatever he does," Purdy stated. "I want the best for him. It's a business thing, so for me to say anything about that, that's out of my pay grade. He and I talk through things and I hear him out. At the end of the day, what he's done for me, giving me an opportunity to come in and throw him the ball, I'll always be thankful for that."
