The 49ers have a pressing need at offensive tackle with Trent Williams aging at 35 and Colton McKivitz's inconsistent play. Thus, McGuinness has San Francisco selecting former Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims in the first round.

"Mims has all the talent to go well before this, but his lack of experience — he has played just 803 snaps in his college career — pushes him a little further down the board for me," McGuinness remarked. "He earned PFF grades above 70.0 in all three seasons of his career and moves way better than you would expect for a player who weighs in at 340 pounds."
Mims achieved an 81.2 pass-blocking grade this past season, marking a career-high. Despite playing only 168 pass-blocking snaps, the incoming rookie allowed just one pressure in 2023 and only six in his three seasons with the Bulldogs.
Standing nearly 6-foot-8 and weighing 340 pounds, Mims showcased impressive athleticism with a 5.07-second time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Such agility is remarkable for a player of his stature.
Mims primarily played right tackle during his tenure at Georgia. Although he re-injured his ankle in the SEC championship against Alabama, he appeared healthy in Indianapolis, leaving scouts and fans in awe during drills.
