Quarterback Brock Purdy was asked to do his best SpongeBob SquarePants impression, much to the delight of some young fans. Purdy looked like he had fun doing it, too.
However, the question posed to Purdy on Tuesday at the team's hotel, the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa, might have been the most awkward. It stemmed from a viral social media post comparing his physical resemblance to John F. Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
A reporter actually asked the 49ers quarterback about the comparison. Purdy, always a true professional, did his best to offer a response when asked if he had seen the post, saying, "I haven't. That's my first time hearing it."
After being asked to share his thoughts on the comparison, Purdy paused, considering the best way to answer, before simply stating, "Yeah, I don't know."
It was undeniably a strange question but not necessarily unsurprising, given past Super Bowl experiences. You must give Purdy credit for at least trying to respond rather than just moving on to the next question.
Despite this week's distractions, Purdy's focus remains on the upcoming Super Bowl 58 clash. His 49ers are set to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday.
