"I think they both have really good cases to be the MVP of this league," Kyle Juszczyk told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero in a recent interview.
The fullback delved into why each player merits consideration for the MVP award, starting with Purdy, the team's impressive second-year quarterback.
"He's just had an incredible season," Juszczyk explained. "And obviously I don't have the stats sitting in front of me, but the guy's like damn near number one in almost every quarterback statistic."
I do have the statistics in front of me. Purdy is producing MVP-like performances every week. He leads the league in completion percentage (70.2), yards per attempt (9.9), yards per catch (14.1), and passer rating (116.9). Purdy has a completion percentage of 70 or higher in eight of his last nine games, including the past seven. He is on pace to set a new franchise record for passing yards in a single season.
Juszczyk continued, "He's been extremely efficient this entire season. He's led the best offense in the NFL, and people love to [say], 'Oh, he's just surrounded by so many weapons.' Well, the ball still needs to get snapped, put in his hands, and he's got to make those plays. And he's done it week in, week out, and I think he's done it at the best, highest level in the league this year. So that's why I think he deserves it."
Moving on to the 49ers' star running back, Juszczyk calls McCaffrey the best football player he's ever been around. McCaffrey leads the league in rushing yards (1,177) and scrimmage yards (1,614).
"There's nothing that guy can't do," Juszczyk said. "I'm pretty sure he's leading the league in scrimmage yards, and he's just made such a difference. I mean, you've seen, since he showed up last season, what he's done for this team, for this offense, and has put us in the position to currently being a one seed and at the top of the NFC, and that's been a very big part because of Christian McCaffrey."
Juszczyk added, "So I think both of those guys are deserving, and voters can't go wrong with either one."
