This development was good news for the 49ers. While all three teams now stand at 10-3, San Francisco holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, having defeated both the Cowboys and Eagles this season.
The 49ers improved their record to 10-3 after a 28-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
This means San Francisco surges ahead of the Eagles in the race for the top seed in the NFC playoff picture and now controls their postseason destiny. If they continue winning, they will secure home-field advantage, regardless of the outcomes elsewhere in the final four weeks of the regular season.
Additionally, a New York Giants win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night would clinch a playoff berth for the 49ers.
When asked about the possibility of earning the No. 1 seed, Purdy said, "For us, if we handle business and take it one week at a time, obviously, who doesn't want to play as the first seed with home-field advantage and all that kind of stuff? So I think everybody in the league knows that. We know that here. And like I said, we're taking it one day at a time, and everything will fall into place that needs to."
The 49ers will travel to face the Arizona Cardinals next weekend before hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas evening. They will conclude their regular season with an away game against the Washington Commanders and a home matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Below is the current playoff seed order in the NFC, with division leaders highlighted.
- San Francisco 49ers (10-3)
- Dallas Cowboys (10-3)
- Detroit Lions (9-4)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7)
- Philadelphia Eagles (10-3)
- Minnesota Vikings (7-6)
- Green Bay Packers (6-6)
