Following Sunday's decisive 42-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, there is a lot of chatter surrounding Brock Purdy's chances of winning the NFL MVP award. Oddsmakers currently favor the San Francisco 49ers quarterback for the coveted annual honor.

Purdy played a pivotal role in helping his teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, amass impressive numbers against the Eagles. Samuel hauled in four receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground, gaining 22 yards and scoring a rushing touchdown.


Purdy completed 19 of his 27 passing attempts for 314 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 148.8 passer rating against the Eagles.

As far as Samuel is concerned, there is no doubt Purdy should clinch the NFL MVP award this season.

"Man, my boy number one right now," Samuel told Kay Adams Tuesday morning. "It ain't even up for debate."

With several games left on the schedule, there's considerable work ahead for the red-hot 49ers as they aim to sustain their momentum, eyeing a victory against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

When asked what Purdy needs to do to maintain his MVP frontrunner status, Samuel commented, "He's just got to keep stacking games, stacking days, stacking weeks. We got to go out here and continue to make plays for him, and I think he'll get the job done as far as the MVP conversation."


Samuel added, "But I don't think that's his ideal goal as far as something that he really wants to accomplish right now. I think, at the end of the day, as a whole, as a group, as a team, we want to be standing there at the end of the year holding the Lombardi Trophy."

Week 13 presented an opportunity for redemption for the 49ers, who were eliminated from the playoffs by the Eagles last season after Purdy sustained an early injury. There was a lot of talk this past offseason, with 49ers players pondering what might have been had Purdy remained healthy. Sunday's performance provided answers to those questions.

While there was a lot of outside chatter, the 49ers quarterback doesn't pay much attention to that. Instead, he chooses to focus on the task at hand.

Samuel said, "I don't think Brock is paying attention to none of the outside noise or anything like that because not once all week was he like, Yo, let's get ready for this game. Let's do this. I mean, Brock's been the same week in and week out, no matter who our opponent is."
