Ahead of Tuesday's practice, when asked about the likelihood of the signing being finalized, Shanahan said, "We'd like it to, but not sure yet."
Shanahan did not disclose specific details about the challenges in finalizing a deal with Verrett. The cornerback could be seeking a spot on the active roster rather than on the practice squad, but that is just speculation.
The continued interest in signing Verrett indicates that the team is confident about his recovery from the Achilles injury he sustained during a practice session last year when he was still a part of the 49ers.
Addressing Verrett's health status on Friday, Shanahan remarked, "I heard they were good in Houston, and they've been, when we worked him out, everyone said it was good, so you guys know how I feel about JV. So it's amazing that he's even back and able to do that stuff. So if we got a chance, we'd love to get him in here."
