In college, Mayfield waved and then planted an Oklahoma Sooners flag in the middle of Ohio State's home field—an act that didn't sit well with Bosa, prompting his celebratory response in 2019.
Reflecting on those moments, Bosa told reporters on Wednesday, "It was fun. My celebrations as a rookie were pretty good."
However, all that is water under the bridge now, with Bosa admitting that he no longer has any animosity toward the now Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback. The two met this past offseason, offering Bosa a new perspective.
"He's nice," Bosa said of the quarterback, adding, "I've never had anything against him. Just a joke as a rookie."
Of course, Bosa is eager to reunite with Mayfield on the football field this Sunday, hopefully a few times in the Buccaneers' backfield. The defensive end offered a scouting report on Mayfield.
"He's definitely scrappy," Bosa shared. "He's tougher than he looks in the pocket with escapability and his athleticism, and then he's good at, whenever guys are open within the scheme, he hits them."
The 49ers and Buccaneers are coming off Week 10 victories, with both teams finally snapping lengthy losing streaks. San Francisco hopes to improve to a 7-3 record on the season with a big win over the visiting Buccaneers at Levi's Stadium.
