Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and running back Christian McCaffrey (oblique) will not be taking the field alongside their teammates. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did note that McCaffrey's rib issue is no longer a worry, indicating the star player could suit up for Monday night's game.
Shanahan, reluctant to reveal too much injury information, was asked if the MRI performed on McCaffrey was encouraging.
"I thought it was," Shanahan responded. "Anyone who's day-to-day, it means they've got a chance."
On Wednesday, Samuel provided an update on his shoulder injury, telling Kay Adams it was sore and adding, "We're going to do everything possible to try to get ready for Monday and just see how it goes during the week. But from Sunday to now, it's way much better than what it was."
It's worth noting that the 49ers have recently been giving McCaffrey a veteran day off during the week's first practice. The team will also hold practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, providing a clearer picture of McCaffrey's readiness for game action.
Tackle Trent Williams is also sitting out today's practice, a customary move for him at the start of the week. However, the offensive lineman sustained an ankle injury early against the Cleveland Browns, fighting through the pain to remain in the game.
All three players are considered day-to-day.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw (hamstring) and guard Aaron Banks (ankle) are also expected to miss today's practice.
