Aiyuk did not play in the Week 3 contest due to a shoulder injury sustained in the 49ers' Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan believed his star receiver might have been able to play against the Giants if not for the short week of preparation.
"I think he probably could if it was a Sunday," Shanahan said after the game. "We were hoping maybe he could wake up different today, but he didn't have a chance once we saw that."
According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, several other players appeared to be absent from Monday's practice, all of whom are dealing with injuries. They are wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings, linebackers Dre Greenlaw and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, and cornerback Ambry Thomas.
Like Aiyuk, Thomas was inactive against the Giants.
Samuel appears to have avoided a serious injury against the Giants.
"Deebo Samuel, his ribs checked out," Shanahan said the day after the game. "No break. Pretty sore today, so he'll be day-to-day."
