McCaffrey is the second 49ers player to earn an NFL award for their performance in Week 1. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
McCaffrey is coming off an impressive 2023 season debut that saw the running back record 152 rushing yards on 22 attempts (6.9-yard average) and a rushing touchdown in the Niners' 30-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. McCaffrey beat out Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb and Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler for the honor.
McCaffrey last won the award following Week 14 last season.
FedEx gives fans the opportunity to recognize weekly top-performing quarterbacks and running backs in games played on Thursday through Sunday through the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards.
By winning the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award, FedEx will make a $2,000 donation in McCaffrey's name to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), which will be applied towards needs-based scholarships to deserving HBCU students.
