Some of the greatest football players ever have worn a 49ers uniform. Is Nick Bosa next to add his name to the pantheon?
On the latest episode of the 49ers Webzone 'No Huddle' podcast from Audacy Sports, hosts Brian Renick and Al Sacco say Bosa is positioned to be a 49ers legend after officially inking a five-year, $170 million extension on Friday morning.
"We're gonna say this is one of the best defensive players of all-time," Sacco said. "I think we're gonna talk about him with Ronnie Lott. We're gonna talk about him with Patrick Willis. He's gonna be an all-time dude."
After winning Defensive Player of the Year and leading the league with 18.5 sacks last year, Bosa is locked up with the Niners through the 2028 season. Bosa is 25 and appears to be in the beginning of the prime of his career, as he has elevated his game every season (when healthy) since being drafted No. 2 overall in 2019.
Lott is already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Willis is knocking on the door, and it certainly looks like Bosa has a chance to be immortalized in Canton if he keeps his pace up.
"He can become the third player this season since 1982 with 15-plus sacks in three of his first five career seasons," Sacco said. "And he basically missed an entire season (in 2020) with his ACL. He is insane. Absolutely insane."
