San Francisco has four quarterbacks on its roster—Brock Purdy, Trey Lance, Sam Darnold, and soon-to-be-signed Brandon Allen. Unfortunately, none of them are eligible to participate during the rookie minicamp.
The 49ers didn't draft a quarterback, nor did they sign an undrafted free-agent quarterback. The team had hoped to sign one in the days after the draft but was unsuccessful. Instead, they agreed to terms with Allen, who has been in the league since 2016.
According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Niners solved their problem. Steven Montez will take part in the 49ers' rookie minicamp. He spent time with the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions and is currently on the Seattle Sea Dragon's roster, an XFL team.
Several players have been invited to join the 49ers' nine drafted rookies and 12 signed undrafted free agents at the rookie minicamp. The invited reportedly include Texas A&M University-Commerce defensive back Darius Williams, Michigan State defensive back Ronald Williams, and New Mexico State linebacker Trevor Brohard.
