San Francisco could be in the market for a safety. Talanoa Hufanga and Tashaun Gipson are slated as starters. However, the team lost Jimmie Ward and Tarvarius Moore, both with safety experience, to free agency. The 49ers also added free-agent safety Myles Hartsfield.
Scott registered 85 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, four passes defensed, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles through 12 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per Sports Reference. He recorded 207 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, a sack, six passes defensed, seven interceptions, a touchdown, and three forced fumbles through his five collegiate seasons.
"A team captain with size, tools and six seasons of collegiate experience, Scott will turn 25 during the 2023 season," Lance Zierlein wrote within the player's NFL.com scouting report. "His age could hurt his chances with some teams, but his athleticism and four-phase special teams background will help him with others. He's more confident and capable as a field-reading center fielder than he is sifting through bunch formations and matching in man coverage. He was a teammate to four Cal defensive backs who were drafted in recent years, and he could be next up thanks to his football character and special teams talent."
Scott is from Pasadena, CA. He earned a pre-draft grade of 5.87 from NFL.com, which equates to an "average backup or special-teams player," per the site's 8-point grading scale.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6' 0 7/8" and 208-pound Scott had a 40-time of 4.45 seconds, a vertical jump of 39.5 inches, a broad jump of 128 inches, a 6.75-second three-cone drill time, 22 reps in the bench press, and a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.17 seconds. His other measurables include an arm length of 30 1/4 inches and hands measuring 10 inches.
