Other quarterbacks with which the 49ers have had pre-draft interactions include Dorian Thompson-Robinson of UCLA and Logan Bonner of Utah State. Tanner McKee of Stanford and Ike Ogbogu of Houston also participated in the 49ers' local pro day.
Haener completed 252-of-350 attempts (72.0 percent) for 2,896 yards with 20 touchdowns and three interceptions through 10 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per Sports Reference. He completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 9,120 yards with 68 touchdowns and 18 interceptions through his four collegiate seasons.
"Team captain with below-average size and arm talent, but above-average football IQ," Lance Zierlein wrote within the player's NFL.com scouting report. "Haener plays with a pre-snap plan and does a nice job of getting the ball out quickly against the blitz. He senses edge pressure and slides to find a new location to throw from. He doesn't have the drive velocity to successfully window shop and might require a timing-based scheme or spread attack where he can make quick throws in rhythm. Haener's lack of traits, coupled with limited mobility outside the pocket, create a challenging road to NFL success."
Haener is from Danville, CA. He earned a pre-draft grade of 5.8 from NFL.com, which equates to an "average backup or special-teams player," per the site's 8-point grading scale.
"I'm not scared to compete," Haener said inside Levi's Stadium after the 49ers' local pro day. "I'm not scared to go into a room that has people who played, and I just want to go in and learn, keep my mouth shut, be as consistent as possible, and show an organization what I can do for them."
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 5' 11 5/8" and 207-pound Haener had a vertical jump of 35 inches, a broad jump of 114 inches, and a 7.01-second three-cone drill time. His other measurables include an arm length of 29 3/4 inches and hands measuring 9 3/8 inches.
NFL.com projects Haener to be a sixth-round draft pick.
