"Coburn is a powerful nose tackle that defeats single blocks with consistency," Melo wrote of the young defender. "Coburn utilizes core power and natural strength that handles double teams appropriately. Coburn should quickly earn a run-stuffing role at the next level."
Coburn registered 29 tackles, four tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles through 13 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per Sports Reference. He recorded 93 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and three forced fumbles during his last four collegiate seasons.
"I just enjoy making plays for my team," Coburn told Melo. "I love helping my team. I'm a team-first player. If I'm able to get on the field and make plays that help my team win ball games, that's what I'm all about. My goal is to help us get off the field and get the ball back for our offense."
Coburn is from Houston, TX. He earned a pre-draft grade of 6.19 from NFL.com, which equates to a "good backup with potential to become a starter," per the site's 8-point grading scale.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6' 1 5/8" and 332-pound Coburn had a 40-time of 5.22 seconds, a vertical jump of 27.5 inches, a broad jump of 101 inches, and 24 reps in the bench press. His other measurables include an arm length of 31 1/2 inches and hands measuring 9 1/8 inches.
The defensive lineman takes pride in his ability to stop the opposition's rushing attack.
Said Coburn: "I'm always excited to stop the run. It's something that I take pride in. My coaches trusted me with that responsibility. If you can't rush the passer, you can't get off the field as a defense. Well, it was my job to put the opposition in those third-and-obvious passing downs. If they can't run the ball, that makes them one-dimensional. Offenses want to run the ball first."
