This week, the NFL awarded the Niners three third-round compensatory picks via the NFL's minority-hiring program for coaches or executives. In addition, San Francisco was awarded four more compensatory picks for free agent losses during the 2022 offseason.
Below is a list of San Francisco's 11 draft picks, followed by an explanation of how the team acquired the additional picks.
- Round 3, Pick 99 (Compensatory)

- Round 6, Pick 216 (Compensatory)
- Round 7, Pick 222 (via Broncos)
- Round 7, Pick 247
- Round 7, Pick 253 (Compensatory)
- Round 7, Pick 255 (Compensatory)
The 49ers acquired a fifth-round pick by trading running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to the Miami Dolphins. A seventh-round pick came by dealing linebacker Jonas Griffith to the Denver Broncos.
The three third-round compensatory picks are for the departures of head coaches Robert Saleh (New York Jets, 2021), Mike McDaniel (Miami Dolphins, 2022), and DeMeco Ryans (Houston Texans, 2023), as well as general managers Martin Mayhew (Washington Commanders, 2021) and Ran Carthon (Tennessee Titans, 2023).
A 2024 compensatory pick awaits the Niners for the loss of Carthon, along with another in 2025 for Ryans' departure.
In 2022, San Francisco lost defensive linemen D.J. Jones and Arden Key, running back Raheem Mostert, guard Laken Tomlinson, and cornerback K'Waun Williams to free agency. One of those players was offset by the addition of cornerback Charvarius Ward in the NFL's formula for compensatory picks, resulting in the four additional picks for players lost.
The 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27. However, the 49ers won't pick until late on Friday, April 28, due to the team lacking a first- or second-round pick.
