The 49ers have faced two playoff opponents, and Purdy has done everything necessary to secure his team a contest against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game this weekend.
Aside from the poise and leadership Purdy has shown over the last eight games, the rookie quarterback hasn't thrown an interception since January 1. Not only has he played well, but he has also done what he can to protect the football.
One Hall of Fame quarterback has been very impressed with the 23-year-old rookie.
"It was a veteran game," Steve Young said on KNBR's Tolbert & Copes show regarding Purdy's efforts against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. "He played a veteran playoff game. And that is making sure you're not part of the problem, ever. It's exactly what Joe Burrow did last week, just play the game, take the ball, put it in the hands of people quickly. If there's nothing there, don't do anything stupid."
Young was less impressed with the quarterback for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott tossed two interceptions, one to cornerback Deommodore Lenoir and the other to linebacker Fred Warner off a deflection from defensive back Jimmie Ward.
"Honestly, I don't know what to say about Dak because there's games like the one against Tampa where it's a flourish, and things are really going well," Young said. "But when he drops back and hangs in there, and then throws a checkdown into double coverage. You just wonder. Not just double coverage but [if] the first guy that touches it is a defender on a checkdown, then you're not seeing [the defense]."
The Cowboys have now lost to the 49ers for the second consecutive postseason, once to a Jimmy Garoppolo-led team, and now to the last overall pick in the draft.
Purdy and the 49ers will face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
