Several 49ers stars didn't suit up for the first practice of the week. Many of the names, like quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and guard Aaron Banks, aren't surprising.
Christian McCaffrey's name popped up on Monday's injury report from head coach Kyle Shanahan. The running back is dealing with what the coach called a "mild" ankle sprain and did not practice on Wednesday. The injury occurred on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Although, Shanahan wasn't sure exactly when it happened during the game.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw sustained a back injury against the Raiders. He did not practice. The 49ers rested defensive end Nick Bosa and tackle Trent Williams.
Guard Aaron Banks has already been ruled out against the Cardinals due to knee and ankle sprains sustained against the Raiders.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Cardinals, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
