"They just said nothing was broken, so that was the best news," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game.
Others emerged a little banged up. Defensive lineman Kevin Givens and cornerback Dontae Johnson exited with knee injuries. Defensive lineman Kerry Hyder and cornerback Ambry Thomas are dealing with ankle injuries. Rookie cornerback Samuel Womack is in the concussion protocol.
That's a long list for a team entering a short week. They are slated to face the Seattle Seahawks on the road on Thursday night.
Oh, and then there is rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, the hero of the game who earned his first career win as a starter. He sustained an oblique injury. Shanahan was asked if that was why the quarterback exited in the fourth quarter.
"No, it just got to that point (a big lead) in the game, so we didn't put him back in," Shanahan responded. "He felt good by the end."
Purdy finished the game 16-of-21 for 185 passing yards, three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), and a passer rating of 134.0 before Josh Johnson replaced him.
The 49ers will see how Purdy, Samuel, and the others feel when they report to the team on Monday morning. That's usually when a more thorough evaluation of player injuries can take place. But with a big matchup with Seattle—well, less significant after the Carolina Panthers beat them on Sunday—is there any level of concern that the quarterback might not be able to go on Thursday night?
"Yeah, I mean, we'll see how it goes this week," Purdy told reporters. "Just felt a little tight at the end, just from taking some hits. But honestly, man, like if I needed to play throughout the rest of the game, I definitely would have. So, I'm going to get some treatment on it and be ready to roll."
