According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bosa will play against the Buccaneers.
The 49ers became aware of Bosa's issue when he reported to the team the morning after San Francisco beat the Miami Dolphins.
"Sometimes those guys are going in the games, and that does happen," Shanahan said. "... It was bothering him on Monday, and we got it looked into it, and it was legit."
Shanahan did note that Bosa is one of those players who could always play in a game even without participating in a single practice in the week leading to it. However, the coach also said that the Niners entering a short week ahead of their Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks might factor into whether Bosa plays on Sunday.
On Friday, the defensive end evaded reporters seeking an update on his hamstring.
Bosa has recorded up 14.5 sacks this season, recording three this past weekend against the Dolphins. He also has 36 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 34 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble through his 11 game appearances this season. The defensive end's 62 pressures rank second in the NFL (Vikings OLB Za'Darius Smith has 64).
For the Buccaneers, running back Leonard Fournette, listed as "questionable" due to a foot injury, is also expected to play in Sunday's game, per Schefter.
