"Hey look, man, I've already kind of sprinkled some words out there," former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens said Wednesday morning on 95.7 The Game. "Like, 'Yo, if you guys need a receiver, I'm good.' Listen here, third down, red zone, trust me, I'm a very valuable asset. ... I've been training. … I'm already ready, I've already reached out to Jed York, I've already told him, 'Yo, if you need somebody, I'm definitely a viable [option]."
San Francisco is down to QB3 on the depth chart. Trey Lance went down with an ankle injury in Week 2. Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a foot injury on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. That leaves rookie Brock Purdy to step in and helm the offense, as he did in Sunday's 33-17 win against the Dolphins.
"This guy definitely didn't seem like he was Mr. Irrelevant in the draft," Owens shared after admitting that he didn't watch Sunday's game in its entirety but caught highlights. "... Obviously, he's been brought up to speed to really prepare himself for the moment. ... If you look at the number of throws that he had, it definitely doesn't seem like a guy that wasn't prepared, and I think this is obviously a good safety net for the Niners, and they feel very confident for what he can produce until—if Jimmy Garoppolo gets healthy."
Led by the league's top-ranked defense, the 49ers still sit atop the NFC West and look to earn a playoff spot. Owens wants to be a part of that. However, his last NFL snap came in 2010, and the former wideout turned 49 years old today (Happy birthday, by the way). Yet, he still believes he can contribute on the NFL football field.
"I definitely would love to come back, put that 81 on (sorry, Tyler Kroft)," Owens said. "... You all still let those Niners know, man. I'm ready, man. All I want is an opportunity, man. That's all I ever wanted."
You can listen to the entire conversation with Owens below.
