Ward didn't hold back when asked about his big-time hit against quarterback Justin Herbert in the 49ers' 22-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. It's the play that led to the unnecessary roughness penalty that got linebacker Dre Greenlaw ejected from the game.
"Nowadays, you can't touch a quarterback, but I was trying to kill him," Ward told reporters in the 49ers locker room after Sunday's hard-fought victory. "I wish he would have stood up. I wish he wouldn't have slid so I could let him feel me."
Ward made it clear that he lacks empathy for quarterbacks in that position. Does the defensive back feel his teammate should have been ejected for the hit on Herbert?
"Nah. Don't run it," Ward responded. "We don't like quarterbacks running the ball. Don't run it."
In Week 11, the 49ers will travel to Mexico City to face another quarterback capable fo making things happen with his feet. The defensive back offered some warning for the Arizona Cardinals signal-caller.
"We play another running quarterback, Kyler Murray," Ward said. "I hope I can catch him. Don't run it. ... I don't got no sympathy for another quarterback on [an] opposing team. Don't run it."
