Defensive linemen Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) and Samson Ebukam (quadricep, Achilles) were noticeably absent from Friday's practice. Neither practiced this week. Head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled out Armstead for Sunday's game. However, the 49ers listed Ebukam as "doubtful."
Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) isn't eligible to return to practice until after the Chargers game. That means the 49ers could be without three of their four starting defensive linemen on Sunday.
Obviously, cornerback Jason Verrett has been ruled out after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury on Wednesday. He is headed to the injured reserve list.
Four players who missed Week 8's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams didn't appear on the pre-game injury list. They are wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (calf), and wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hamstring). All four are good to go.
Shanahan said the 49ers expect to activate multiple players from the injured reserve list ahead of Sunday's game. Running back Elijah Mitchell (knee), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), offensive lineman Colton McKivitz (knee), and defensive end Jordan Willis (knee) all made it through a week of practice.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will be without wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
