Last week, San Francisco added running back Christian McCaffrey via a trade with the Carolina Panthers. As Fowler notes, the team expects to get running back Elijah Mitchell (MCL) back after the bye week too.
Wilson and McCaffrey split time during Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson led 49ers running backs (not counting fullback Kyle Juszczyk) with 26 snaps, while McCaffrey played 22 snaps.
Wilson registered a team-leading 54 rushing yards on seven carries. McCaffrey had 38 rushing yards on eight carries.
San Francisco signed Wilson as an undrafted free agent out of North Texas in 2018. He has 1,719 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns through his five NFL seasons. Wilson also has 43 receptions for 366 yards and four receiving touchdowns over his career.
