As expected, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is headed to the injured reserve list after suffering a torn ACL on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Safety Jimmie Ward quickly exited the game with a broken hand. It was his first back after being activated off the injured reserve list.
"Jimmie Ward had his surgery," Shanahan said. "They have a cast put on it. He should have a chance to play with it in a few weeks, but we won't know anything until they re-evaluate that in about 10 days, see how it is with the cast."
Defensive end Nick Bosa will not participate in Wednesday's practice, but that does not eliminate his chances of playing on Sunday. He is dealing with a groin injury suffered against the Panthers.
"I know he's got a chance to play," Shanahan said. "But it doesn't feel good enough to go today, so hopefully, he'll be better tomorrow."
Others who will not practice on Wednesday are defensive linemen Arik Armstead (foot, ankle), Javon Kinlaw (knee), and Samson Ebukam (Achilles), tackle Trent Williams (ankle), and kicker Robbie Gould (left knee). The 49ers will test Gould's ability to kick on Thursday or Friday. The team signed kicker Sam Sloman to the practice squad in case Gould cannot go.
While Kinlaw traveled with the 49ers to West Virginia, Armstead did not. Unfortunately, that means he will not play against the Falcons. However, the team still does not plan to place Armstead on injured reserve just yet.
Tight end Tyler Kroft (knee), wide receiver Danny Gray (illness), guard Aaron Banks (knee), and safety Tarvarius Moore (hamstring) will be limited.
Shanahan noted that Ebukam's and Banks' injuries weren't serious.
"Those two, it's just tendinitis from the turf," the coach said. "They're still sore from it."
Running back Ty Davis-Price is returning to practice.
