The 49ers feared their starting cornerback suffered an ACL injury but awaited the results from further tests to confirm that.
"Lots of guys got hurt in the game, but it just didn't look good," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game. "That definitely took away from a little bit of the excitement at the end, but we know the deal. It's part of this league, and everybody goes through it, but that was a tough one today."
The game between the 49ers and Panthers took place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tight end George Kittle was critical of the artificial turf at the venue.
"NBA guys don't play on different wood," Kittle told reporters after the game. "Like, what are we doing? Hockey guys don't play on different ices all the time. It's ice. So I just wish we played on a surface that was similar week in and week out so your body wouldn't be dealing with different, crappy turf."
Moseley was on pace for a career year. He earned a career-high 71.0 overall Pro Football Focus grade through five games. On Sunday, the cornerback intercepted Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield and returned it 41 yards for the first touchdown of his career, finishing the game with two tackles and two passes defensed.
When asked if cornerback Jason Verrett might be able to fill in for Moseley, Shanahan responded, "That's a lot to ask from him, just the injuries [he's] coming back [from]. We only got, really, one full-speed practice last week that he could really test it on."
Verrett is currently on the physically unable to perform list as he works his way back from the ACL injury he suffered during Week 1 of last season. However, the 49ers opened his practice window last week and can activate him within the next two weeks.
