"San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle's serious groin injury is improving," wrote Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, "but not enough to where he's expected to play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly."
Kittle suffered his injury on September 5 and hasn't practiced since. He missed the 49ers' regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears. It's sounding unlikely that Kittle will be on the field with his teammates for their home opener at Levi's Stadium on Sunday.
On Thursday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the chances of Kittle and offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill playing in the Week 2 matchup.
"Neither of them were able to [practice] today (Thursday)," he responded during the radio interview. "I'm holding out more hope for George. We haven't ruled Brunskill out yet, I don't believe, but I'd be shocked if Brunskill made it. George still has a chance."
San Francisco will hold its final practice of the week today at 12:18 p.m. PT. The 49ers will release official injury statuses this afternoon.
